How is this different from what the school can provide or what other advocates provide?

Our goal is not only to help you understand the process but also to get the most out of it for your child. We provide education on the school support process and also use our clinical expertise to help you develop accommodations that are well-formulated and have follow-through, and that any goals are easily measurable and clear while also aligning with your child’s needs (because we do evaluations and provide student support, we understand the data and what the instruction should look like in order to be effective).

We also believe in a collaborative approach, working alongside the school because we know it takes a village!

Do I need an advocate?

Not necessarily! It depends on your goals and your child’s needs. There are a few important things you will want to know as you begin working with your school including:

  • What type of school support does my child need and qualify for (an Individualized Education Program, a 504 Plan, informal accommodations)?

  • What specific accommodations or supports would be helpful in the classroom setting?

  • What specific instruction is needed to close any academic gaps? Can this occur in the classroom or does it need to be targeted in a small group setting?

Results after Advocacy:

Peace of mind and clarity

A clear plan written by the school for your child

A follow-up plan and toolkit to use at home

Common Questions

  • Yes. We can attend school meetings with you, in-person up to 25 miles from our office or we can join meetings virtually!

  • The initial review process typically takes between 1-2 weeks. The school meeting is dependent on your child's school (make sure to include us during the scheduling process so we can ensure that we're available!). The follow-up process occurs within a week of the school meeting (once they have a final plan over to you).

  • Our goal is always to be collaborative. We know this takes a village and our goal is to do everything we can to get you what you need for your child, while also making sure the school has what they need to implement an effective plan.

  • Not necessarily. Depending on your child's identified areas of need, the school is working with you to make sure that your child has access to a free and appropriate education. This can be accomplished in many ways, so we will talk through what is reasonable and what may not be reasonable for the school to implement.
