Research-Based Reading Intervention

We believe That effective reading instruction that works for ALL students should be accessible to everyone.

You have a deep desire to change the lives of struggling readers (even to change the life of your struggling reader).

It’s awful watching a child struggle. You see the brightness and the creativity but you worry that the love of learning will begin to dim or burn out altogether if something doesn’t change. But you feel stuck because you’re not sure what to do next.

We get it. With all the information available out there it’s hard to sort through what’s reputable from what’s downright crazy. And that’s where we come in.

Hey there, I’m Corey…

I’m a data-driven and analytical educational therapist and diagnostician who is deeply passionate about helping struggling readers close the gap between where they are and where they want to be.

I spent over ten years working at leading research and clinical institutes including Johns Hopkins University, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the University of Denver digging into all the articles, best practices, science and application of student development looking at everything from how the brain functions, student performance in the classroom, to best practices for closing student performance gaps.

And I loved every minute of it... until I realized I wanted to create a bigger, more tangible impact.

To not only understand why students performed the way they did but to be part of the solution.

I wanted to create a different outcome for struggling students.

I wanted to build something that would allow me to continue to work with students and impact real meaningful change without a multi-year waitlist.

That’s why I started our private education center, Ascend Learning & Educational Consulting, where we work directly with students and families providing educational diagnoses such as dyslexia and dysgraphia in addition to providing research-based instruction to help get struggling students to grade level and beyond.

But what I quickly realized was that while we could create massive transformation in the reading and writing skills of the students we worked with... there were still so many students who needed help who didn’t have access to it.

So, I decided it was time to put everything I knew about solid, research-based instruction for struggling readers into the hands of those who needed it the most…

There is no better time than right now to help your struggling reader(s) show the world what they’re capable of.

And I’m Mikayla…

a passionate and eager professional who has always dreamed of changing the lives of kids.

As an educational therapist, I see the drastic impact this approach has for students.  There is nothing better than finally seeing the spark in a child’s eye when they finally get “it.” It’s so much bigger than just reading and writing. These students are realizing (sometimes for the first time) that they are capable, intelligent, and worthy of success.

I love that I get to share this approach with other educators and SLPs. I know that empowering those who work directly with struggling students helps us impact more lives. Call me a dreamer, but I know with every part of my being that we are going to change the world for our students.

Whether you are a parent of a struggling reader or an educator/SLP, know that you have the power to completely transform the current outcomes. These kids are bright and capable and it’s time for us to empower them to reach their potential. It’s not as difficult as it may seem, you just need a guide, and that’s why we’re here.

Meet the rest of the team…

Alongside an incredible team of talented educators with experience in a variety of settings including the classroom, special education and intervention settings, we built a program designed to put research-based literacy instruction into the hands of those who needed it.

We’ve used our 7-step framework successfully in our private education practice to close the education gap entirely for even the most struggling students. We’d love to work with you to do the same.

We work alongside a team of educational therapists, speech language pathologists, and clinical psychologists to guarantee the best multi-disciplinary approach you’ll find anywhere, because “fine” is not good enough for the students we work with.
